Case Study

VIP Boxing Promotions: Multi Camera Live Streaming

From our first experimental stream to live television at Doncaster Racecourse, we grew with VIP Boxing across almost a decade of multi camera production and R&D.

The Challenge

Turning regular fight nights into a dependable broadcast format

VIP Boxing Promotions staged frequent professional shows in different venues across the North. In 2013, the promoter asked us to turn the required fight recording into a live online programme that could reach supporters and help build the next event.

Our first stream delivered pictures without sound. We took that lesson into the next show and focused on building a portable, affordable workflow that could improve through regular use.

The Solution

Almost a decade of live production development

From 2013 to 2022, we developed a repeatable multi camera workflow around VIP’s shows, adding stronger audio, branded graphics, replay, separate programme and international mixes, and progressively deeper redundancy. The client gave us a trusted live environment for R&D, including the work behind our portable Box Solution.

We grew the online audience from zero to more than three million video views in one year, while VIP reported stronger ticket sales. The relationship culminated in our live television production from Doncaster Racecourse on 8 October 2022, broadcast by SportyStuffTV across Sky 437, Freesat, Freeview and online.

A production relationship built show by show

We began working with VIP Boxing Promotions in 2013. What started as practical help with an online stream grew into a production relationship that lasted until 2022 and covered regular professional boxing shows across the North of England.

The first stream gave us an honest lesson: the pictures reached the audience and revealed a serious problem: the programme had no sound. Steve Wood and the VIP team gave us the trust and space to solve the problem, test new ideas and improve the production at every event. That openness became the foundation for almost a decade of development.

From a web stream to a repeatable live boxing format

VIP needed a portable, cost effective system that could move between very different venues and still give every fight night a recognisable broadcast identity. We brought the cameras, live direction, vision mixing, recording, graphics, replay and streaming into one practical workflow.

Because the shows ran regularly, we could learn in a real production environment. Each event helped us refine deployment, crew roles, audio routing and backup plans, making the next production more resilient and more polished.

Engineering the oXyFire Box Solution

The relationship became an important research and development platform for our Box Solution: a compact production system designed to handle filming, mixing, graphics, recording and transmission. The development work qualified for R&D tax relief and helped us turn live event problems into reusable broadcast technology.

We developed paired server redundancy, live graphic overlays, social media integration, slow motion replay and separate audio outputs. That included a programme mix with commentary and an international mix carrying venue atmosphere, giving later broadcasters the flexibility to add their own commentary.

More than three million views, alongside fuller venues

We recommended moving the regular coverage from YouTube Live into Facebook Live, where supporters could watch, share and discover the next event in the same social feed. During the first year, we grew the online audience from zero to more than three million video views.

Steve told us the effect was also being felt at the venues: tickets sold faster, shows sold out more regularly and online viewers wanted to be in the room for the next fight night. The stream became part of how VIP Boxing built anticipation from one event to the next.

A live television milestone at Doncaster Racecourse

On 8 October 2022, we delivered the live television production from Doncaster Racecourse. The programme was broadcast by SportyStuffTV and carried on Sky 437, Freesat 250, Freeview 264 and online. It marked a striking progression from those early experimental streams.

The card featured Roman Fury’s professional debut, with Tyson Fury and Tommy Fury at ringside. Our team covered the show with four fight cameras, a studio camera, live direction, production management, sound, graphics and slow motion replay.

After the broadcast, SportyStuffTV chairman and chief executive Kevan Moretti described the event as “a really good and compelling watch” and gave credit to everyone involved.

Why the partnership mattered

VIP Boxing grew while our production capability grew with it. The client trusted us to research, test and deploy new technology around real shows, and we turned that freedom into systems that could support VIP and other live production clients.

For us, this case study is proof that the best technical development is rooted in a real audience need. Across a relationship that ran from 2013 to 2022, we moved from an imperfect first stream to a resilient multi camera workflow and a live television broadcast.
