The Short Film Show Series 1: Independent Television Production

Independent television production for The Short Film Show, spanning a three day studio schedule, multi episode post production, captions and platform delivery.

The Challenge

Turning an independent short film format into a repeatable series

The Short Film Show combined finished films with presenter links and conversations with directors and other guests. Ten scripted programmes were arranged across a concentrated three day studio schedule, each using a four part one hour structure.

The first series workflow then needed consistent episode finishing, captions and platform specific delivery across eleven completed masters, linear television and ten confirmed Prime releases.

The Solution

Producer led studio, post and delivery support

We worked with Hold That Shot and PHA Broadcast on the series, with Jay Rozanski serving as a producer. The programme used three studio corners and a chat setup, followed by detailed review of colour, framing, audio, straps, transitions, credits and on screen wording.

We handled captions, Amazon compliance and delivery packaging. We completed eleven Series 1 episode masters, while Amazon published ten Season 1 episodes in the UK and US.

A television format built around independent film

The Short Film Show created a broadcast home for short films and the people behind them. Presented by Jemma Forte and Kev Harris, each hour combined finished films with studio conversations, giving directors and guests space to discuss the ideas and craft behind the work.

The series was made through a three partner production involving we, Hold That Shot and PHA Broadcast. Our producer led contribution extended across the studio schedule, post production review, captions and platform delivery.

Ten scripted shows across a three day studio schedule

The working shooting script and ordered schedule set out ten programmes to be recorded from Monday to Wednesday. Each programme used a four part, one hour structure, moving between short films, presenter links and guest or director conversations.

Three studio corners and a separate chat setup gave the programme visual variety and maintained a consistent series identity. The schedule concentrated a substantial amount of presenter, interview and link material into three studio days, making preparation and a controlled running order essential.

Producer led post production and quality control

Jay Rozanski served as a producer and worked with Paul Davies through the edit and review process. Episode finishing covered colour and black levels, framing and crops, audio, name straps, transitions, credits and on screen grammar.

Versioned review masters created a clear route for corrections across the series. We also handled captions, Amazon compliance and delivery packaging, extending the work from studio production into the detailed requirements of television and video on demand distribution.

Eleven episode masters and ten Prime releases

The completed first series collection comprised eleven episode masters. Amazon then published ten Season 1 episodes in the United Kingdom and the United States. These figures capture two distinct milestones: completed series masters and confirmed Prime releases.

Episodes also aired on Showcase TV on Sky 212 in the Monday 10pm slot and were promoted for Freesat 161. Prime Video’s programme page continues to identify the series, presenters, director and producers.

A complete route from studio to platform

The project joined format planning, concentrated studio recording, multi episode post production and platform specific delivery. Each stage contributed to a repeatable independent television production workflow.

Eleven Series 1 episode masters, ten confirmed Prime publications and linear television transmission show how the programme moved from a three day studio schedule into a finished series available across broadcast and on demand destinations.

A format that gave filmmakers room to speak

The four part episode structure created repeated points for short films, presenter links and conversations. Jemma Forte and Kev Harris could move the viewer between the work on screen and the people who made it, giving each programme a recognisable editorial rhythm.

The three studio corners and dedicated chat setup supported those changes of tone across a concentrated recording schedule. Consistent framing, straps and transitions then carried that studio identity through the finished episodes and into the series delivered to broadcasters and Prime Video.
