Acer, QPR and Orlando Pirates: An International Education Partnership Film

We turned an education partnership between Acer, Microsoft, QPR and Orlando Pirates into a warm international film connecting young people in London and Soweto through football, culture and technology.

Acer, QPR and Orlando Pirates: An International Education Partnership Film
The Challenge

One partnership, two countries and a story led by young people

Acer and Microsoft were working with Queens Park Rangers and Orlando Pirates on an education programme connecting young people in west London and Soweto. The participants used Skype to meet, learn about each other’s football clubs and explore life in another country.

The film needed to explain a multi-partner international programme in a few minutes while preserving the young contributors’ own voices. Interviews and activity from two countries had to feel like one warm, purposeful story for education, technology and football audiences.

The Solution

A concise international film built around real voices

We filmed the UK contributors at QPR and combined their interviews with material from the Orlando Pirates Learning Centre. We developed the editorial structure, wrote a short opening voiceover and used classroom, football and Skype activity to connect the two locations.

We managed the edit and stakeholder review through Otto Communications & PR, refined the programme for Acer and both football organisations, verified contributor names and delivered a film of just over four minutes in January 2016. It was prepared for BETT and requested for QPR’s stadium screen.

The Solution

2 COUNTRIES CONNECTED
4 MINUTE PARTNERSHIP FILM
14 SCHOOLS IN ACER’S REPORTED PROGRAMME

Football created the connection; technology carried it across continents

The partnership brought together young people linked to Queens Park Rangers in west London and the Orlando Pirates Learning Centre in Soweto. Their conversations used football as common ground, then opened into education, culture and everyday life in two very different cities.

Acer had supported the Orlando Pirates Learning Centre since 2012 alongside Microsoft and South Africa’s education authorities. Acer’s 2015 corporate responsibility report said the centre worked with 14 local schools and had attracted thousands of teachers and students. The film gave this wider programme a human face through the young people taking part.

Finding one story across London and Soweto

We filmed the UK side of the project at QPR and worked with the material from South Africa to build one coherent international story. Interviews with pupils, educators and the people around the programme carried the film, supported by classroom activity, football and the Skype exchange itself.

The contributors spoke naturally, so our edit had to find the shared ideas running through very different answers. We shaped the structure around curiosity, cultural awareness and the role football clubs can play within their communities. A concise opening voiceover established the partnership quickly, leaving the young people to give the film its energy and personality.

Editing for two countries and several stakeholders

The review brought together input from Otto Communications & PR, Acer, QPR and the South African project team. We managed the evolving cut, refined the balance between interviews and actuality, incorporated stakeholder feedback and checked every contributor’s on-screen name before delivery.

That detail mattered. The film represented young participants, two football organisations and a global technology partnership. Clear captions, accurate identities and balanced screen time helped every contributor feel part of the same programme. We delivered the completed film in January 2016 after a focused review process.

A film designed to keep travelling

The completed partnership film ran for just over four minutes. It was prepared in time for the BETT education technology show, giving Acer a concise story that connected its technology with a lived educational experience.

QPR’s Education Manager also asked for the finished film to be played on the stadium’s big screen at a home game. That request extended the work beyond a trade-show audience and brought the young people’s story back into the football community that helped create it. After reviewing the finished programme, the client told us that the project partners loved the film.

The programme itself continued to develop. Acer’s 2016 reporting described an exchange in which four young participants travelled between the UK and South Africa for a week of cultural, sporting and educational activity. The Orlando Pirates Learning Centre later reported that more than 7,000 young people had passed through its doors by 2018. These are outcomes of the wider partnership; our film helped communicate the people, purpose and possibility behind it.

What this project shows about partnership video production

International stories need a clear editorial centre. We brought interviews and activity from London and Soweto into one warm, accessible film, giving each organisation appropriate visibility while keeping the young people at the heart of the story.

The result shows how case study video production can turn a complex partnership into a film that works for stakeholders, events and public audiences. The technology enabled the connection; the contributors made its value understandable.
