Acer Chromebook: Case Study Video Production Across Two Schools
Two evidence-led education films showing how Acer Chromebook rollouts changed teaching and learning at Filey Junior School and University Academy Keighley.
Turning technology adoption into credible human proof
Acer and Otto Communications & PR needed credible films about Chromebook adoption at Filey Junior School and University Academy Keighley. Each production had to translate a significant technology rollout into a story that school leaders, teachers and prospective adopters could trust.
The strongest evidence lived with the people using the devices. We needed to bring together leadership strategy, classroom practice, pupil experience and parent confidence while filming safely inside working schools and meeting Acer’s brand requirements.
Two school stories, filmed around real learning
We produced two distinct, interview-led school stories across 2014 and 2015. Filey combined green-screen interviews with a designed Acer environment and generated long and short edits. Keighley used a two-camera documentary approach across a full school day to capture a 700-device one-to-one rollout in real classrooms.
Our work covered planning, interviewing, filming, editing, colour grading, sound mixing, brand compliance and delivery in multiple formats. Otto PR’s first response to the Keighley cut was simple and emphatic: “I LOVE IT.”
In numbers
Case study video production built around real school experience
Acer and Otto Communications & PR asked us to tell the story of Chromebook adoption through the people living with the change every day. We began at Filey Junior School in 2014 and continued at University Academy Keighley in 2015, creating two complementary films for audiences considering a similar investment.
Chromebook adoption was accelerating in schools, and broad claims about ease of use, sharing and management needed human proof. Our films brought those ideas into real classrooms, where school leaders, teachers, pupils and parents could explain what one-to-one access meant in practice.
Filey Junior School: filming a school-wide change
We filmed at Filey on 24 November 2014, after detailed pre-production around contributors, questions and the school day. Every pupil and member of staff had access to an Acer Chromebook, so our job was to make a significant technology change feel personal, clear and credible.
Our camera and sound setup supported honest interviews without losing the energy of a working school. After the shoot, Acer’s Jake Breach told us he had really enjoyed the day and had been impressed by our efforts.
One production, two purposeful edits
We used green-screen interviews to create a consistent Acer-branded setting, then delivered a six-minute case study film and a two-and-a-half-minute sales edit from the same production. The longer version gave the school’s experience room to breathe, while the shorter film opened faster conversations with prospective adopters.
Acer’s published Filey case study later reported instant teacher feedback, peer assessment and improved performance in national tests, taking the school above the national average.
Keighley: capturing a 700-device transformation
We returned to Yorkshire on 8 July 2015 to film University Academy Keighley. The academy had reviewed its IT strategy, involved staff and student leaders in evaluating devices and selected Acer Chromebook 13 computers for a one-to-one rollout. Seven hundred Chromebooks were issued to teachers and learners, with the devices used across most subjects on most school days.
Staff received training, pupils were encouraged to learn independently and the school developed Google Champion groups so teachers and students could support their peers. Parents were part of the transition because learners could take their Chromebooks home.

The completed film brings the academy’s leadership, teachers, pupils and parents together around its 700-device rollout.
Two cameras and four perspectives
We planned the Keighley production around a full working school day. Our two-camera crew filmed real lessons and interviewed school leadership, teachers, pupils and parents, giving the edit four distinct perspectives on the same change.
We worked within the school’s safeguarding and filming permissions, identified pupils who could not appear and protected them throughout production and post. The finished story retained the energy of real classrooms while remaining controlled, purposeful and suitable for an international technology brand.
From classroom testimony to polished campaign assets
Our production covered pre-production, interviewing, two-camera filming, editing, colour grading, sound mixing and the integration of Acer’s education branding. At Filey, we built the branded interview environment in post. At Keighley, real classrooms and observational footage gave the film the feel of a compact documentary.
We worked through Acer’s brand-compliance review and prepared final assets in multiple delivery formats, including high-definition masters for different viewing and distribution requirements.
A client response that said everything
The first response from Shaun Wootton at Otto PR to the Keighley edit was direct: “I LOVE IT.” Jenny described the film as having the feel of a mini documentary, which is exactly what we had set out to create: a polished brand film led by honest experience.
Together, Filey and Keighley demonstrate what strong case study video production can do. Real voices turned product features into lived benefits, while long-form storytelling, shorter sales content and brand-compliant delivery gave the client practical assets for PR, marketing and conversations with other schools. For brands working across education and learning, this approach makes technology adoption easier to understand and easier to trust.
Frequently asked questions
What is case study video production?
Case study video production turns a genuine customer experience into a credible film. We combine interviews, observational footage and supporting evidence so prospective customers can understand both the experience and the practical outcome.
How did we produce the Acer Chromebook case studies?
We planned and filmed two interview-led school stories at Filey Junior School and University Academy Keighley. Our work covered contributor planning, two-camera filming, sound, editing, colour grading, branded graphics, review management and delivery.
Why did the films feature teachers, pupils and parents?
The people using the Chromebooks could explain the change with more authority and warmth than a conventional product demonstration. Their different perspectives connected leadership decisions with classroom practice, pupil experience and confidence at home.
Can one production create both long and short case study films?
Yes. At Filey, we created a six-minute case study and a shorter two-and-a-half-minute sales edit from the same production. Planning both versions early allowed each film to serve a different audience without duplicating the shoot.
What did the Acer Chromebook films demonstrate?
The films showed how Chromebook adoption worked inside two real schools. They covered a school-wide deployment at Filey and a 700-device one-to-one rollout at Keighley, using direct testimony and classroom footage to make the benefits understandable.
